February in Review

Article by Sydney Loder

The month of love was accompanied by four great novels and novellas consisting of romance in every imaginable way. February started with an enemies to lovers to enemies rollercoaster that kept me on my toes all through the story. Then it moved to a simple romance that detailed the love between two individuals, but also the love found through chosen family. The month then took a darker turn and found itself in the struggle of an unhealthy relationship and the mental challenges of falling out of love. Lastly, February displayed the fight for self love and acceptance within an individual and a relationship.

The Wicked King by Holly Black, A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas, It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover, and A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas were all incredible reads that captured my attention and love. I was able to start the month off strong with The Wicked King which included large aspects of politics within an individuals life and kingdom, the fight for family or fame, and an ever changing enemies to lovers romance with amazing twists throughout. Later in the month I found myself reading It Ends With Us. This novel was absolutely heartbreaking but beautiful as it detailed breaking the cycle of domestic abuse within a relationship and home, and finding the love that an individual truly deserves.

The month of February gave me the time to finish the ACOTAR series through reading the novella A Court of Frost and Starlight and the novel A Court of Silver Flames. In the former Maas depicted the characters regaining themselves after the war that occurred in the third book. She was able to capture the love of chosen family and that of sisterhood through her short novel about winter solstice and giving. In the latter, the POV switched characters and I found myself reading about the struggle of finding self-love and acceptance, the fight to come back to normal life after a traumatic event has occurred, and the understanding that everyone deserves to have someone.

I fell in love with February and every book that I was able to read during it. Each novel brought its own new and refreshing story to the table. There was lots of laughing and smiles, some tears, even more eye-rolls, and a whole lot of aggressively closing the book and screaming internally. As you can imagine, February was great.
